The organization was exposed out of revenge by Katipunan member, Teodoro Patiño because of a wage dispute with another member. When the authorities came to arrest the members, the first battle of the Revolution was fought.

The Revolution gained momentum in December of 1896, when author and Filipino nationalist, José Rizal was executed by firing squad, and continued until the end of the Spanish American War on August 13, 1989. At the signing of the Treaty of Paris, ending that war, control of the Philippines passed from Spain to the United States. The Philippine Revolution helped end Spanish rule of the country, but failed to gain independence for the country.

Universities In Quezon City
Quezon City is home to several universities and colleges. Ateneo De Manila University was founded in 1859 by the Society of Jesus. It is the third oldest university in the Philippines. It is the largest location of the University of the Philippines system, due to the number of degrees and academic units offered, the number of students attending, and its library resources. It participated in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines in sports such as Basketball, Volleyball,Track & Field, Swimming, and Fencing. The Swimming team has won 36 championships, in all categories.
